Blue Waters

Antigua In Style

In April 2018 I visited the beautiful Caribbean Island of Antigua with one of our specialist Caribbean partners, Caribtours. I have fallen in love with the Island, the rum punch and the amazing accomodation Antigua has to offer.

We arrived into Antigua and were escorted off to the beautiful Carlisle Bay. There are two routes to the hotel the coastal route or the forest route. We opted for the forest route through the stunning greenery. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a cold drink and a friendly greeting from Michael the guest services manager. I stayed in a beach ocean view villa which was stunning. Standing on the balcony looking straight out to the sea I had already fallen in love with Carlisle Bay.

That afternoon we headed straight out of the hotel to the infamous Shirley heights! I had never heard of Shirley heights, but had heard lots of great reviews and also been told its a must do whilst in Antigua! As we arrived it was rum at the ready, steel drums playing and fresh food being cooked on the BBQ. What I loved about Shirley heights was the atmosphere, the stunning sunset views and that everybody was there to have an amazing time! Families, couples, and any generation are guaranteed a good time at Shirley heights. Later that evening we had dinner at The Inn at English Harbour. The views from the restaurant were amazing and the food was delicious! The Inn has such a relaxed feel about the hotel and the rooms were beach front colonial style villas.

After a great night’s sleep at Carlisle bay, I woke up to stunning beach views, ready for a full tour of the resort. Carlisle Bay is amazing for families with the 2 bedroom beachfront villas they have to offer. However, the nice thing about the resort was that they placed the family and couples villas separately to give you that adult space if you wanted it. The kids club was brilliant with daily activities for all age groups, and also this is a great resort for any tennis players with eight courts ready to go. In the afternoon I had a full body massage which was bliss and without a doubt one of the best spas in Antigua.

Later in the day, we visited curtain bluff (which had been on my list of hotels to visit for a long time). When we visited Curtain bluff, Rob (the owner of the resort) showed us around and had such passion for the hotel and his customers, he made you feel really at home. Curtain bluff has just undergone a multi-million-pound refurbishment and is a great option for anyone looking for luxury all-inclusive. Right on the bluff and located on the beach every room comes with an ocean view as standard. I could see why Curtain bluff was so popular, a really warm family welcome with great service, great food, and everything you would need to enjoy a week in Antigua.

After a few days at Carlisle Bay, we headed up to the north of the island. Our next stop was Blue Waters  Resort & Spa for a few nights. Blue waters is a great option for anyone looking for a stylish all-inclusive resort. Most recently in the press, as Prince Harry stayed there during his Caribbean tour. We stayed in the cove suites which were lovely and had their own private pool. Blue waters again felt like a home from home. The food was great, people were amazing and you could tell this was a family-run resort. My highlight at blue waters was the bbq evening, fresh fish, fresh steak, and lots of rum punch.

The highlight of the trip for me was the final hotel we visited, Jumby Bay! Without a doubt, this is one of the best resorts I have ever visited. The whole experience at Jumby starts from the minute your boat arrives on to the beautiful island. Jumby Bay is a mixture of privately owned villas to resort accommodation. I was lucky enough to visit five of the private villas at Jumby, and would highly recommend these for anyone looking for that something extra special.

I absolutely loved Antigua and would recommend it to anyone looking for a luxury beach break which is only an 8 hour flight from the UK.
