Just Checked Out... Ikos Porto Petro

On the Southeast coast of Mallorca, nestled between the Mondrago National Park and the pretty marina town of Porto Petro, lies the newest Ikos five-star resort. Known for exceptional all-inclusive luxury, this sleek and chic bohemian hotel is the latest desirable Ikos destination, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

From the moment you enter resort you’re treated to sweeping views of the azure sea, lush greenery and cool modern design mixed with laid back Balearic charm. With secluded aquamarine coves and crystalline pools that seem to melt into the sea beyond, it’s a beautiful setting in which to relax and unwind.

With a chilled glass of Tattinger champagne to sip at check-in, chilled house music sailing through the air and the plush neutral decor, this resort exudes comfy luxury and I absolutely loved it!

What were your favourite things about Ikos Porto Petro?

The entire resort is just stunning, partly down to the incredible views from every inch of the grounds. With a slightly elevated position around the coastline, the hotel hugs all the inlets and coves, so the views were spectacular and picture perfect at every turn. I honestly couldn’t stop taking photos of the scenery as it was gorgeous at every spot!

And the design and decor are just effortless, adding a really laid-back feel to the whole hotel. The furnishings were an interior designer’s dream, with everything from the reception seats to the sun loungers being plush and comfortable.

This is also the first Ikos resort located close to a town, so exploring the local marina’s shops and restaurants adds another exciting dimension to your holiday. Two of the restaurants are even included in the Dine Out programme where you can eat locally as part of your all-inclusive package and get a true taste of authentic Mallorcan life.

What were the food and restaurants like?

The food was a real highlight for me, and with the menus at Ikos all created by Michelin starred chefs, it’s no surprise that I was blown away by it all. With a choice of five à la carte restaurants and a new food hall all offering exquisite international and local cuisine, there’s an abundance of choice and appetising dishes wherever you choose to dine. So much so, I can’t get the prawn ravioli in lemongrass and coconut sauce out of my head!

Add in the two local Dine Out restaurants and your tastebuds will be tantalised for your entire stay. This is without doubt the best food I’ve experienced at an all-inclusive resort, and with elegant portion sizes you can order several dishes to try them all, guilt-free!

Another awesome addition is with their room service, where you can order from any of the restaurants that are open. So, first class food is delivered straight to your door without you even leaving the balcony. You can even order your favourite bottle of wine to stock in the mini bar or some sunset cocktails just to complete the evening, and it’s all included in your stay!

Speaking of which, no five-star hotel would be complete without an incredible drinks menu, and from the lobby bar to the champagne cart the perfect beverage is always at your fingertips. With an exhaustive range of branded spirits and fragrant flavours, the cocktails were hands down the best I’ve ever experienced at an all-inclusive resort, with a wide range of delicious options thoughtfully conceived and brilliantly executed. I was really impressed with the options for non-drinkers too, from alcohol-free sparkling wine to an impressive choice of mocktails, including an alcohol free No-groni and 0% Tanqueray gin, everyone can experience their mixology mastery.

What facilities do they have at Ikos Porto Petro for kids?

In line with the level of service and experience you receive at Ikos, the kids clubs are fantastic. With complimentary kids clubs for children aged 4-12 and teens, there is also a creche for babies from 4 months old, at an extra cost of 35 euros per 3-hour session. With dedicated and attentive nannies that will even keep to the schedule you already have for your baby; they offer an amazing service so you can relax stress free for at least a few hours. The kids clubs and creches are rightly very popular so will need to be booked in advance through the Swords concierge team.

Dining is also a family friendly occasion, with kids and toddler menus at every restaurant and a new buffet style restaurant, there’s always delicious food that’s easy to grab for hungry little ones. There’s even complimentary in-room dining available 24 hours a day, so if for any reason you need to stay in the apartment, food is always on hand.

There’s an extensive list of baby and toddler equipment that can be pre-booked, including sterilisers, baby baths, and toilet seats, to ensure your suite becomes a home away from home.

There’s even a great kids pool for the young ones to play about in. And while there’s no splash park or water slides, all of the pools, including the private ones, are heated to a delicious 27 degrees making them perfect for all the family.

What room types would you recommend for families?

All the rooms at Ikos have stunning views, whether you’re gazing over the sparkling ocean or the refreshing pools, but as a family you always need that extra bit of space, and the Deluxe One Bedroom suites are perfect for this. With two separate sleeping areas, a sofa bed in the lounge and a huge double width balcony, there’s room for the entire family to relax and enjoy.

With access to exclusive parts of the resort such as the two private pools, the Deluxe bar, restaurant and beach (and let’s not forget the bottle of Tattinger in the room) the upgrade to Deluxe is well worth it, and with over 45% of the rooms at Ikos in the Deluxe range, it’s clear why it’s so popular.

For those with a larger budget, the two and three bedroom bungalows are divine, with large open living spaces that offer spectacular views of the turquoise coves and huge private pools. Perfect for those that want a bit more privacy, they also offer proper beds in all bedrooms rather than sofa beds, ensuring everyone gets their own space as well as an amazing night’s sleep.

Is there anywhere to go nearby?

As well as the marina less than 5 minutes walk away, the east coast of Mallorca has some of the most breathtaking coves on the island, so turquoise bays fringed with sandy beaches and pretty inlets are just a stone’s throw away. And with all guests being entitled to complimentary hire of a Tesla for the day, you can set off to whichever one you fancy. We went to a popular nearby cove called Cala Llombards for a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters and to soak up the sun, but with a full day at your disposal why not drive to Palma, the beautiful and charming capital.

At just under an hour’s drive from the hotel it’s a gorgeous place to explore, with incredible shopping and beautiful back lanes and cafes. You can even enter the Cathedral of Mallorca and The March Palace for free with the Ikos Culture Pass, again all totally inclusive in your stay.

What’s your honest overall review of Ikos Porto Petro?

Ikos resorts are iconic for a reason and Ikos Porto Petro  has totally lived up to the hype for me. From the rosé champagne at check in, to the incredible singers and musicians playing by the cocktail bar, the laidback, luxurious feel of this place is second to none.

Something to bear in mind is that Mallorca is famous for its lovely secluded coves rather than expanses of white sand, so for previous Ikos customers the beaches here might be less than they expect. They are all protected land that can’t be altered, which does result in a slightly rocky beach at the front, transitioning into sand when you reach the loungers. On land they have imported plenty of sand, so the beach club floor (with its instagram worthy cabanas) is still silky soft to walk on. But while these coves are absolutely gorgeous, and in my opinion all the prettier in their natural state, they might not be the idyllic beaches found at other Ikos resorts.

Having seen and experienced the understated elegance of this hotel I’d definitely recommend this to couples and groups of friends as well as families. It has a very elevated feel that is found in absolutely every element from the soft plush towels to the first-class service, and it’s a place that anyone can enjoy. I went with a friend and we both had a ball! It’s definitely not a cheap holiday, but if you love top class cuisine and delicious refreshments then it’s definitely worth the price tag.
